Delivering the “Wow” effect in Digital Outdoor Displays
Speaking of optical bonding in outdoor digital signage displays we are not referring to alien instruments created to abduct us without realizing it and not even some other sci-fi devilry. It is instead a technology that all the displays of electronic devices that surround us, and without which we could not live as the smartphone, the tablet or the screen of our computer, have.
Without it we would not be able to see any LCD display, especially when we are outdoors and under the sun.
Unfortunately, even today when it comes to selling outdoor displays everybody keeps talking about brightness, though it’s not the most important element to ensure optimal readability. Here the key concept is contrast, a term that refers to different levels in light intensity between the bright white pixels and the darker black ones.
The Matter with Digital Outdoor Displays
The real common problem in digital displays is that between the LCD panel and the outer screen there is an air gap that creates reflections, accumulates condensation and dust, all elements that negatively affect the legibility of digital sign, as we saw in a previous article.
Therefore, to improve the performance of a digital signage display, it must be ensured that all the air gaps that can cause condensation and reflections are eliminated. And that when internal temperatures lowers heats dissipates in order to stabilize the internal temperature and prevent the issues of excessive heat. This is important because heat can degrade the image quality, shorten the life of the screen, and even result in complete failure. All this involves continuous repair interventions that decrease the value of the initial investment and must be kept in mind when calculating the ROI.

The problem of the air gap has been solved by the GDS experts with a sandwich structure. This system, which has nothing to do with bread and sauces of any kind, is instead based on the encapsulation of the LCD screen in a structure that puts it in direct thermal contact with its external front and back surfaces, facilitating direct heat dissipation from the inside to the outside.
